Fans of mochi ice cream brand Little Moons are calling the company’s latest launch their ‘favourite’ release yet.
Set up by siblings Howard and Vivien Wong in 2010, Little Moons didn’t achieve mainstream recognition until a decade later, when social media drove its meteoric rise in popularity.
Sales of the bite-sized mochi balls, with a sweet, soft, and chewy rice flour dough coating and a creamy and delicious gelato ice cream centre, skyrocketd. And since then, they’ve continued to utilise social media, with taste tests featuring their products racking up millions of views.
The latest release might just be their most popular, with one customer @sianlouiselister revealing she’s been ‘eating four boxes a day’.
Customers are currently racing to get their hands on ‘Mini Moons’.
‘Small in size, but big on flavour,’ these pop-in-your-mouth pieces are Little Moons’ tiniest treats yet. For each piece, you’ll find the brand’s signature soft and chewy mochi dough wrapped around a smooth, indulgent cheesecake filling.
Each bag contains around 24 pieces and dropped exclusively in Sainsbury’s superstores on March 15, before rolling into Sainsbury’s Local stores from April 15.
Priced at £5.00 per bag, the three flavours include: Mango & Passionfruit, Salted Caramel, and Malted Chocolate.
Described by one customer @AmeliaButler as ‘innovation that deserves an award’, shoppers are praising the ice cream brand for creating the ‘perfect snack’.
@Sofia.and.arran, content creators who have become known for their taste tests on TikTok, didn’t even make it back to their car before ripping into the new Mini Moon treats.
In their video, which has been liked over 16,000 times, Sofia can be heard saying: ‘These are so cute! I’m so excited to try these’.
Sampling the teeny little mochi balls, the creators noted: ‘It’s the chewinessthat gets me, they’re sensational’.
Arran even made the bold claim ‘they’re better than the big ones!’

Some customers did make note of the price tag, with one user @Tanayanoting ‘£5 is a big steep’, but from the looks of it customers haven’t been too fazed.
Unfortunately, premium costs are something we’ve all become extremely accustomed to.
For example, Fruit Riot, a cult US snack featuring frozen fruit coated in a candy shell, has recently launched in Tesco, priced at £5.95. While many Brits have praised the ‘incredible product’ online, others have questioned the cost.
In a review, TikToker @Natania criticised the price, saying: ‘I didn’t know how much they were going to be, but £6 each? That’s £12 for two packets — they better be good.’
Mini Moons aren’t the only new release Little Moons is pushing. The brand also recently expanded its lighter Refreshos range with a new Lemon & Elderflower flavour.
The product features a fruity sorbet centre wrapped in the brand’s signature mochi. Most of the normal Little Moon flavours sit at between 70 to 80 calories, whereas the Refreshos range are approximately 55 calories.
Driven by a growing appetitie for all-things-Italian on social media, these Amalfi-inspired Little Moons have also received a seal of approval from customers.
@Gabbyjeffereyy called the new product ‘such a good combination’, adding ‘I can’t believe they’ve not made these before. This is going to be my new summer snack’.
