When it comes to tea and biscuit pairings, the humble Hobnob is a pretty elite choice.

It’s been over 40 years since McVitie’s launched the classic treat, made with simple rolled oats and topped with milk chocolate.

In more recent years, fans have gone wild for Hobnob Oaty Creams, delivering two round biscuits sandwiched together with a moreish creamy filling. Now, there’s now another spin-off product hitting shelves.

Meet: the Hobnobs Oaty Crunch Creams.

At first glace, they’re very similar, albeit rectangular in shape. But the new launch has two new flavours to get excited about: Milk and Chocolate.

Describing it as an ‘exciting’ moment for the biscuit name, Bethan Ashman, brand manager for McVitie’s, said: ‘We’ve taken the classic Hobnobs oaty biscuit people know and love and paired it with a smooth, creamy centre to create something comfortingly familiar yet delightfully new.’

The launch was originally marked in the calendar for today, but shoppers already spotted an early version available in Home Bargains last week.

Posting on the @treatsinstore Instagram account, both flavours hit the shelves for 49p each – and dedicated McVitie’s fans were positively frothing at the mouth for them.

@vickyrichthomas12 wrote: ‘I must say these are dangerous and so tasty.’ The only problem? She reckoned the packets were too small.

Elsewhere, @jameseonline joked that the brand had ‘basically just changed the shape,’ while @anabolic_sheep said ‘it’s just not a Hobnob anymore.’

Over on Facebook, Emma Green confessed that normally, she doesn’t even like Hobnobs, but this shiny new biscuit has inspired some ‘FOMO’ in her.

Yvonne Britton added that the treats ‘look good,’ but she’ll ‘eat the whole packet,’ while Paige Gibson said they looked absolutely ‘class.’

The McVitie’s Hobnobs Oaty Crunch Creams in Milk Flavour and Chocolate Flavour are now on supermarket shelves, with retailers including Morrisons, Iceland, and Tesco. McVitie’s has given a recommended price of £1, but this might vary between stores.

Those wanting an ever tastier buscuit might want to ditch the brand names for a supermarket alternative though.

Back in January,Metro conducted a taste test on the classic chocolate digestive biscuit – and it was the Marks & Spencer’s version (£1.25 for 300g) that proved victorious, garnering an overall score of 86 out of 100.

Yes, that means it beat the McVitie’s own-brand version, as, by comparison, the ‘nation’s favourite milk chocolate biscuit’ only scored 61 out of 100 in our blind taste test.

According to M&S, these biscuits contain demerara sugar for ‘a crunchier texture’, and they certainly didn’t disappoint in this department.

We also gave them a strong 16/20 for chocolate-to-biscuit ratio, 18/20 for dunkability, 18/20 for appearance, and 16/20 for texture. Fancy a cuppa?
