Former Home and Away star Alea O’Shea is continuing to undergo treatment following her brain cancer diagnosis.

The actress, who is 25, first shared the news of her health update in November last year. A fundraiser has now been launched to raise more money for Alea’s treatment.

The GoFundMe page was set up last week by Alea’s friends.

It reads: ‘Over the past months, Alea has been bravely facing brain cancer and the many treatments that come with it. Last week, she underwent another surgery as part of her ongoing fight.

‘While her courage has never wavered, the journey has been incredibly challenging for both Alea and her family. Like many families navigating serious illness, they have discovered that a number of essential cancer treatments, therapy and procedures are not covered by private health insurance, creating a significant and ongoing financial burden.’

It’s revealed in the description that Alea’s family are doing everything they can to get her the care that she needs.

Alea, who starred as Darcy Callahan in the Australian soap from 2011 until 2014, and then again from 2016-2017, is passionate about supporting other women who have been diagnosed with cancer. The GoFundMe description reveals that Alea has been raising money to help women ‘purchase high-quality wigs and feel good about themselves’.

‘Many people in our community have been asking how they can help. This page has been created to give friends, family, and the wider community a way to support Alea by helping ease the financial pressure of medical treatments and related expenses’, it adds.

As of March 30, over $80,000 has been donated to the page so far.

Alea is also talking about her diagnosis on her TikTok page. Last year, she revealed that she had a biopsy on her birthday.

The star has said the treatment she will have in the coming months may leave her bald and paralysed on the left side of her body. Despite this, she told her followers that she’d still share updates whenever possible.
