Romeo and Juliet? Capulets and Montagues? Star-crossed lovers? Nah, we reckon a Coronation Street and EastEnders pairing giving soap-crossed lovers is far juicier, and it looks as though Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell) and Katie McGlynn (Sinead Tinker) are serving up just that.

The soapy twosome previously starred together in the touring play Murder At Midnight, where they reportedly bonded and became more than friends, according to The Sun.

A source at the time said: ‘Max and Katie have been around each other for years. They were in the soap world for so long where everyone knows each other.

‘They’ve got loads in common and both have found themselves single at the same time as doing the tour. They get on well and have been spending time together – it’s clear they’ve got chemistry.

‘Who knows what the future holds?’

Well, apparently, the future didn’t hold much at the time as they reportedly split two months later, when the tour ended.

Another insider told The Sun: ‘Max and Katie have had a bit of a whirlwind romance.

‘Working together has meant they didn’t have much time for anything else and one thing led to another but Katie has come to her sense and decided to end things. Max is said to be pretty cut up about it and it’s made things pretty awkward.’

Well, some months on, it appears that the on-again-off-again romance is on-again, with the two having reunited after a period apart.

‘Katie and Max had a whirlwind romance last year but sadly things didn’t work out. They remained friends and over the last couple weeks decided to give things another go,’ a source told The Sun.

‘There was a lot of attention on their relationship so they were hoping to keep things private this time around.’

Apparently, members of Katie’s family were less than impressed when pictures of the two leaked, with one in particular featuring Max answering the call of nature against a wall troubling them.

‘There were quite a few people around Katie who were telling her that Max wasn’t good for her. So when those pictures came out of him urinating against a wall while she looked on, it seemed to show that they were right.

‘It’s going to be interesting to see how long their romance will last this time around.’

Metro has reached out to representatives for both Max and Katie for comment.

Max and Katie’s soap history

Ben Mitchell in EastEnders

Both Max and Katie had their share of seriously meaty soap storylines during their soap tenures.

Max played Ben Mitchell between 2019 and 2025, a period that saw Ben become more villainous than ever before, following in his fathers footsteps and becoming a hardened gangster.

He formed the super-popular ‘Ballum’ pairing with Callum Highway (Tony Clay), took on a much-praised male rape storyline and struggled with bulimia nervosa, while also playing a major role in baby mama Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) heart wrenching death.

Katie played Sinead Tinker between 2013 and 2020, during which time she left her ‘first love’, Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) for Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

Besides an unbelievably meme-able moment in which Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) mimicked her accent and called her a bitch, Sinead’s biggest storyline also doubled as her exit, as she was diagnosed and ultimately succumbed to cervical cancer.
