Neil Young cancels UK and Europe tour after admitting he ‘needs a break’

Legendary musician Neil Young has cancelled the European leg of his 2026 tour after admitting he needs a break.

Young, who turned 80 last year, was scheduled to begin a run of dates across Europe starting in the UK on June 27.

However, in a statement on his website, Young announced he was cancelling the tour.

‘I have decided to take a break and will not be touring Europe this time,’ he wrote.

‘Thanks to everyone who bought tickets. I’m sorry to let you down, but this is not the time. I do love playing live and being with you and the Chrome Hearts.’

The singer was expected to kick off his tour in Cornwall,before travellign to across the Uk and the continent before finishing in Italy.

Young has been a popular musician since launching his career in the 1960s.

The musician has released a string of successful albums, including Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush, and Rust Never Sleeps.

Known as the ‘Godfather of Grunge, ‘ Young has received multiple Grammy and Juno Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a solo artist and as a member of the band Buffalo Springfield.

The news that Young won’t be touring comes just months after he made the decision to remove his songs from Amazon Music.

In a statement released in October 2025 he said: ‘Forget Amazon and Whole Foods . Forget Facebook. Buy local. Buy direct. Bezos supports this government. It does not support you or me.

‘The time is here. Forget Amazon. Soon my music will not be there. It is easy to buy local. Support your community. Go to the local store.

‘Don’t go back to the big corporations who have sold out America. We all have to give up something to save America from the Corporate Control Age it is entering,’ he continued.

In January meanwhile Young gave everyone in Greenland free access to his music in a display of opposition to the Trump administration.

‘I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government,’ Young said.
