Amazon Prime fans have already labelled Nicolas Cage’s new 1930s crime thriller an ‘instant classic’.

From the makers of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Noir has released its first teaser trailer, both in colour and black and white.

Based on the comic book character of the same name, this live-action series follows Ben Reilly (Cage), a down-on-his-luck detective in 1930s New York.

But Reilly’s no ordinary gumshoe (that’s a detective if you don’t talk 30s), he’s got sensational spider-powers that help him solve cases and kick butt as a vigilante known as The Spider… or they did.

You see, Spider-Noir will see our monochromatic main character grappling with his past life as the city’s only superhero following a deeply personal tragedy.

Sounds good, right?Well, fans online certainly think so. They’ve been flooding social media with praise for images from the upcoming show.

Writing on YouTube, @JacianGonzalez said: ‘You have no idea how happy I am to see a live action Spidey actually swinging on the small screen,’ while @MrPrince-v1i added: ‘Watching this trailer twice, watching the show twice, this will be spectacular.’

‘Nicolas Cage as a grizzled, fedora-wearing Spider-Noir? Peak casting,’ wrote @kaafira09 on X.

@BarrakAli added: ‘Spider-Noir on Prime Video is going to be absolutely incredible! The noir aesthetic looks perfect. Can’t wait to see this series!’

Who is Spider-Noir? Get to know Ben Reilly

Who is Spider-Noir?

Spider-Noir, also known as Spider-Man Noir, is a variant of Spider-Man from an alternate dimension known as Earth-90214. This version of Earth is a hardboiled-crime noir-inspired universe where Marvel’s mightiest heroes (and villains) emerged during the Great Depression.

What are Spider-Noir’s powers, and how did he get them?

Spider-Noir has the same powers as Peter Parker; however, he has organic webbing, and he received them from an ancient spider-god instead of a radioactive spider.

Where was Spider-Noir introduced?

The character first appeared in comics in Spider-Man: Noir #1 in February 2009. He made his movie debut in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, where he was voiced by Cage.

Who created Spider-Noir?

The comicbook version of the character was created by:

  • David Hine (co-writer)
  • Fabrice Sapolsky (co-writer)
  • Carmine Di Giandomenico (artist)
  • Marko Djurdjević (costume design)

On Reddit, Obiwanhellothere09 also said: ‘The image with Nicolas Cage goes insanely hard.’

Meanwhile, Most_Common8114 probably summed up fans’ feelings best when he chimed in with: ‘Bro… I NEED THIS NOW!’

Sadly, Most_Common8114, we have bad news.

We still don’t know when Spider-Noir will be released, but we do have some other tasty morsels.

It’s been confirmed that this isn’t an origin story and that we won’t be seeing Ben get to grips with his powers and responsibility.

‘Ben Reilly has already gone through the entire arc and has seen it all,’ co-showrunner Oren Uziel told Esquire.

‘He’s over it and trying to move past it. But his past kind of keeps coming back to haunt him. It’s just a different version that we haven’t seen before.’

Cage isn’t the only star lined up to appear. Li Jun Li will be playing a variant of the classic Spider-Man character Black Cat, while Karen Rodriguez will be keeping Ben Reilly in line as his ‘smart and scrappy’ secretary, Janet.

Perhaps most exciting, though, is the casting of New Girl’s own Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Ben’s best chum and a dedicated journalist trying to make it in 1930s New York.

We also know (again, courtesy of Esquire) which villain Ben will be battling.

The Spider will be facing off against the crimeboss Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson) and his hired goon Flint Marko (Jack Huston), also known as The Sandman.

“In all the great detective stories, you have two cases that sort of come together, and you realise you’re actually working the same thing,’ explained Uziel.

‘[Ben’s] a guy getting dragged into a much larger fight that he doesn’t really want to be a part of. Silvermane is the big bad, but what’s happening to Silvermane connects back to Ben’s past and gets him spiralling deeper and deeper into his own origins.’
