A massive explosion at a Pennsylvania plant has left one dead, dozens injured and two people missing.
The US Steel Clairton Coke Works exploded shortly before 11am on Monday, setting off a loud boom in the Pittsburgh area, according to Allegheny County police.
Five people were rushed to hospitals.
A rescue operation is underway for two people who are unaccounted for and presumed to be underneath the rubble.
Exactly how many people were hurt was not immediately known, said Allegheny County Emergency Services spokesperson Kasey Reigner.
The plant plant is about 15 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
Air quality is being monitored by the health department.
‘The scene is still active, and folks nearby should follow the direction of local authorities,’ wrote Governor Josh Shapiro on social media.
‘Please join Lori and me in praying for the Clairton community.’
