Filming has begun on the Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover episode – which will be called Corriedale.
The worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will collide for the first time in a one-off celebration of the two most watched soap operas.
Set to air on ITV, STV, ITVX and YouTube in early 2026, residents of Weatherfield will join forces with their Yorkshire neighbours in an action packed hour of drama – and we cannot wait.
The instalment will mark the start of a new soap power hour schedule, with Emmerdale airing at 8pm and then Corrie following afterwards at 8:30pm.
Following audience research, bosses concluded that 30 minute episodes attracted higher audience figures throughout 2024, and as a result, a new broadcast pattern will be adopted from January.
Both of the soaps are marking the occasion in spectacular style, with the combined production teams embarking on an ambitious stunt set to have everlasting consequences for everyone involved.
Cameras started rolling on the production at the end of September, but details of the stunt and who will be involved are currently being kept under wraps.
Iain MacLeod, ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, teased the game-changing episode and said: ‘It’s beyond exciting that filming is under way on Corriedale. There is a massive buzz around both the Leeds and Manchester sites and the images coming out of the shoot are utterly spectacular.
‘And that’s before we’ve even got to all the brilliant transpennine interactions between characters from the different shows!
He added: ‘As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable.’
As the production begins, both Coronation Street and Emmerdale have now hit a milestone of 350 million streams on ITVX so far throughout 2025, which is an increase of 31% year on year.
In August, Corrie and Emmerdale hit almost 40 million streams.
Speaking about the new schedule and the reasoning behind it, ITV’s managing director of media and entertainment, Kevin Lygo, said: ‘The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led.
‘We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX, and we want to present their favourite soap to them in the most digestible way.
‘In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.’
Recently, a clue was revealed in an episode of Coronation Street that appeared to confirm Emmerdale’s John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) will play a part in the crossover.
With the character on the run, a Wanted poster was spotted in the Weatherfield police station.
This is bound to be more than just an Easter Egg for fans – John appearing in this way surely indicates that the place he may end up looming while on the run will be Britain’s most famous cobbled street.
Emmerdale viewers saw John evade justice after using his knowledge of Anthony’s murder to blackmail Caleb Miligan (William Ash) into helping him make a break for it.
After knocking Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) out with a shovel, Caleb drove John to the border, before letting him make a run for it in Rotterdam.
Prior to this, John stuck to the deal and told Caleb the location of Anthony’s body, and also deleted an email scheduled to send to the police, which would’ve saw them learn that Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) killed her father.
He’s a dangerous man, having killed Nate Robinson, left Mack Boyd (Lawrence Robb) to what he assumed would be his death, and also throwing the so-called love of his life, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), from a cliff.
John has also been responsible for other deadly events that have taken place in the village, including drugging Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), attacking Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) and forcing Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) to have an allergic reaction.
Now, it certainly seems that the residents of Corrie should also watch their backs with a killer potentially in their midst.
Elsewhere, actors such as Ryan Hawley, Lisa Riley, and Eden Taylor-Draper have teased big drama for the crossover episode, while Vicky Myers – Weatherfield’s very own DS Lisa Swain – appeared to give away to Metro that she is filming in Leeds.
Soap fans – time to get excited!
