Trigger warning: This article contains discussion of rape and sexual assault.
Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Tuesday’s (March 3) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm.
The cocky smile was wiped away from Sully’s (Harry French) face when Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) unexpectedly showed up during Dodger Savage’s (Danny Mac) police hearing – with the evidence needed to put him away.
It’s a moment months in the making, with corrupt cop Sully proving a key antagonist following his introduction during the Channel 4 soap’s 30th anniversary in October last year.
During a late night edition of the serial, Sully and associate Griff took Dodger and Donny hostage in Liverpool and, in harrowing scenes, Dodger was raped by Griff, who Donny subsequently killed. The events of the night in question left Donny devastated and it was later revealed that he was also raped that evening – by Sully.
Dodger reported his assault to the police but with Griff nowhere to be found and new colleague Sully – and associate Smithy – causing trouble for him at the station, months of torment followed as he was belittled and abused by those he worked with.
Donny, meanwhile, struggled to cope with his own ordeal and pushed away everyone closest to him, including wife-to-be Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi).
Gemma Johnston (Tisha Merry) pieced together what happened to her dad earlier this week after retrieving a USB stick from the place in Liverpool – which had CCTV footage of Donny’s attack.
Donny felt unable to speak about what he’d been through when Gemma revealed that she knew, which led to him to a nightclub, where he proceeded to get drunk.
The former detective fell unconscious outside the establishment. Misbah, meanwhile, discovered Donny’s ordeal and, horrified at the thought of him dealing with this on his own, she swooped into action as she and Gemma set off to locate him.
When Donny returned home to 67 Christleton Terrace, he broke down in tears in Misbah’s arms.
Dodger, meanwhile, was questioned at a hearing after he helped Smithy escape police custody last week on Sully’s orders. Dodger didn’t hold back as he accused Smithy of being corrupt and revealed before the panel of investigators that Sully’s associate Griff raped him.

Sully, however, was quick to try and discredit Dodge when he had his opportunity to speak, taking great delight in playing the big man as he recounted how Dodger’s own father is a serial killer.
He also reiterated that there is no existing evidence to back up any of his claims of corruption. What made the situation worse is that further corruption had taken place earlier that day as Sully had paid off the key investigator in the case, who Dodger noticed wasn’t quizzing his nemesis as thoroughly as he did to him.
As the day came to a close, Dodger fought tears, fearing Sully was going to get away with his crimes. But then things really did take an unexpected turn.
Enter Donny.
All eyes were on the door as former detective Donny walked in, backing up every single one of Dodger’s claims. Branding Sully a ‘sorry excuse of a human being capable of the violation that destroys a person’, he provided the USB stick with the CCTV footage to bring him down for good.
The grin vanished from Sully’s face as he realised his time was up while Dodger broke down with emotion, hoping that justice can now finally be served.
But will Sully finally go down for what he’s done?
