Does Trump only act for the benefit of US citizens?

People like ex-Trump supporter Leslie (MetroTalk, Thu) are missing the point when they criticise the US president over his threats to take over Greenland.

Everything he does is to the benefit of the US and its citizens, unlike the UK government over here. There is nothing wrong in thinking only about the benefit of your country and citizens, irrespective of how others feel. Inbaraj, Harrow

Reader points out the ‘imperialistic ambitions of the US leader’

Just a few days ago it seemed that the agreement on transferring sovereignty of the Chagos Islands (where a key UK-US military base is located) from the UK to Mauritius was a done deal.

Last May, the US ‘welcomed the historic agreement’, saying it ‘secures the long-term, stable and effective operation of the joint military facility at Diego Garcia’. On Tuesday, however, Donald Trump abruptly changed his opinion and criticised the UK’s plans. The intensified imperialistic ambitions of the US leader and his constant threats to impose tariffs make it completely impossible for UK-US relations to remain friendly.

Trump has always been known for his selfishness but his recent actions resemble those of a spoiled child.

And even Sir Keir Starmer, who is known among international leaders as The Trump Whisperer, can’t keep up with the president’s mood swings.

The US has become brazen, showing no qualms about infringing on the territorial integrity of its allies or interfering in their internal affairs. Dealing with Trump has always been a headache but now it has become nigh-on impossible. Iain Brocklebank, Glasgow

Farage’s hypocrisy…

I am sure Nigel Farage, being an honourable and honest gentleman, will stand down from the leadership of his party, having apologised for breaching the ministerial code 17 times and failing to declare £384,000 of income on time (Metro, Thu). Especially having been so vocal about Labour’s Angela Rayner and her inadvertent error over just £40,000 of stamp duty. Neil Dance, Birmingham

Reader pulls apart Metro’s own-brand biscuit comparison

In your own-brand biscuit comparison (Metro, Wed), one of the categories was ‘flavour’ – obviously quite subjective.

It would have been interesting to see the comparative sugar content as it’s a pretty fair bet that impacts the flavour perception significantly. Americans often complain about our food because it contains much less sugar. Nigel, London

Reader dislikes being asked to make a donation at check-out

I consider myself to be reasonably charitable but get annoyed when asked if I wish to make a donation on making a purchase using my card. I would rather donate at a time of my choosing, rather than every time I shop. Roger, Witham

Solo holiday round-up confusion

Your solo holiday round-up (Metro, Mon) suggest that in Sri Lanka, we might spot a leopard. Silly me, I always thought they were born that way. Alison, London

An expressive joke

I remember when plastic surgery was a bit taboo. Mention Botox now and no one raises an eyebrow. Dave, Chigwell
