Prime Video finally reveals when record-breaking series Last One Laughing will return

At long last, Amazon Prime Video has revealed when hit series Last One Laughing UK will return – and there isn’t long to wait.

Last year, the comedy reality show (hosted by Jimmy Carr) took the streaming platform by storm, with viewing figures making it Prime Video’s biggest UK launch ever.

The first three episodes were watched by well over two million people, who tuned in to see which successful comedian would crack under pressure, competing with industry peers to try and make them laugh… without doing so themselves.

In the end, Bob Mortimer was the final man standing, defeating Richard Ayoade in a tense showdown, meaning he took home the trophy and returns to try and retain it in season 2.

Season 2 was commissioned last May, just two months after season 1 landed, thanks to its astronomical success, with the streamer now announcing it’ll be released on March 19.

‘Let the games begin… Last One Laughing UK Season 2 is coming to Prime Video on 19th March,’ they teased on Instagram, with excitable comments quickly flooding in.

‘This show is EVERYTHING honestly I can’t wait!!!’, commented comedian Watson D.Hirschfield.

‘So ready for this 🔥👏🙌’, declared Richard Franks.

@andanj added that she hopes the second instalment is as entertaining as the first, which made her ‘nearly die laughing’, while @alanna_feeney branded it the ‘best show on telly’.

Viewers are also getting in their early predictions for who will make it all the way – and who definitely won’t.

Last year’s lineup included some of the biggest names in British comedy, such as Joe Lycett, Daisy May Cooper, Rob Beckett, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, and Sara Pascoe.

This time, the participants are: David Mitchell, Mel Giedroyc, Alan Carr, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sam Campbell, and Diane Morgan, as well as reigning champion Bob, of course.

Many are expecting the Would I Lie To You legend to emerge victorious once more, but some reckon Philomena Cunk star Diane could also take it.

Fans also have high hopes for the famously sardonic Peep Show star David – although there’s one comic in particular we’re certain won’t last long.

‘Odds on Alan Carr lasting less than an hour? 🤣’, commented @clorley_, to which @wooffindin replied: ‘That’s a bit optimistic’.

‘Alan Carr has got no chance of winning this 😂’, echoed @ollieoioioi, given how the Chatty Man is famous for being unable to contain his laughter.

All of that said, he did surprise us all by taking home the jackpot on Celebrity Traitors, so you never know…

Last One Laughing got a UK adaptation following several international versions. There have also been editions in Australia, Mexico, Germany, and Canada, while Graham Norton hosts Last One Laughing Ireland.

The aim is simple – don’t laugh, smile, or smirk as comedians are locked in a room for a set time and have to use every tool in their comedy toolbox to try and oust the others.

From props to wild anecdotes and from dad jokes to innuendos, nothing is off the table.

Each celeb also gets a chance to perform their ‘Joker,’ taking to the stage to showcase an act that they’re certain will get their competitors to crack a grin.

The cast are given two chances, first with a yellow card warning before a red is issued, after which they’re eliminated from the game, and the numbers are whittled down.

Speaking in November about taking part in Last One Laughing, winner Bob, 66, told This Morning that he had no idea how huge the show would become, which is ‘probably the reason a lot of [them] did it’.

Having previously got This Country’s Daisy out by singing to her, he teased that he also managed to do the same the second time around and that we can ‘maybe’ expect more magic from him too.

‘It was very difficult not to laugh,’ he did admit, going on to fuel fan theories about Alan’s inability to keep a straight face.

‘Can you imagine the difficulty Alan had trying not to laugh?’

Does that confirm Alan was eliminated early doors? Or will the master Traitor pull it out of the bag again?

Last One Laughing UK is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Season 2 will be released on March 19.
