Soap icon Rita Simons, beloved by soap fans nationwide as problematic Queen Roxy Mitchell in EastEnders, has taken to Instagram to talk about an upcoming surgery she’ll be undergoing.

Rita will be undergoing a breast reduction as a direct result of scoliosis, a condition she opened up about suffering earlier this year. She took to Instagram to share a carousel of image and clips.

The first featured the actor looking fresh with a bright smile, while the second displayed an x-ray of her spine, which clearly shows the extent of her condition. The third showed a humorous clip of Rita struggling to button up a shirt.

‘A little life update,’ she began the caption.

‘As you know, I’ve not stopped moaning about giving up vaping. It still sucks,’ she continued, highlighting her journey of giving up vaping, a process she’s detailed with her followers.

‘Apart from the fact it’s a rancid habit that needed to go, there was another reason…surgery in 3 weeks.

‘It’s finally time to say goodbye to my massively annoying boobs. The pain they cause my back just isn’t necessary anymore. This chapter seems to be about getting rid of everything that doesn’t serve me… the womb, the alcohol, the sugar, the fags/vape…so let’s do the boobs too.

‘The boobs definitely do not serve me.

Rita went on to explain the impact her bust has had on her condition, and her attempt to alleviate her discomfort.

‘Because of my particular scoliosis and the state of the rest of my back, I’m not a candidate for spinal surgery. My spine can’t be “fixed”, so my focus is on doing everything I can to reduce pain and slow the progression of the curves.

‘They’ll never be cured — so we work with what we’ve got. I can’t lie… pain relief aside, I’m also looking forward to not having the rib hump at the back and the two mountains at the front. Let’s lose those mountains.

‘I’m sharing this because adult scoliosis isn’t talked about enough — and this is just one of the many curveballs women with scoliosis can experience. I’ll keep you posted and as always Thanku for all the lovely messages! #scolisisters #adultscoliosis #breastreduction’

Rita first discussed her condition earlier this year with a video on Instagram.

‘Some of you know I have scoliosis. Some of you are about to Google it. So…here it is,’ she started.

‘My back does its own thing. Big time. Back pain aside (the pain is real, but I deal with it)…the real drama is getting dressed. What looks fabulous on the hanger usually makes me look like a rolled-up carpet. I’ve never been this exposed about it before… but I’m going to just say f**k it and do it.

‘This one’s for my scoli sisters (I see you and I understand more than you probably realise), but also for the big-boobed, short-waisted, slightly wonky, perfectly imperfect crew. Im not a candidate for surgery. There’s no magic wand fix… just physio, posture checks, and an extensive blazer collection.’

‘I’ll just say this…If my back were straight I’d be unbearably f**kn perfect
This is character building.’

In between her opening up about her condition and revealing her upcoming surgery, Rita has been discussing dressing with scoliosis more and more, creating a community online with other sufferers.

‘Wow! Who knew there were so many of us #scolisisters out there! I read all your messages and I’m so grateful for all the love,’ she captioned a video of her trying on new clothes.

‘I thought the ‘get ready with scoliosis’ part needed its own moment..so here it is! I’ll try and do more of these because so many of you have messaged to ask where everything is from…and I KNOW how bloody hard getting dressed is when you have this condition!’
