A young moped rider has been killed in a hit-and-run at a ‘deathtrap’ junction in south west London.
The victim, 22, was fatally injured near Kingston Bridge at just after 11.30pm on Saturday.
Detectives are hunting the driver of the dark coloured vehicle who collided with the rider before leaving him to die at the scene.
Locals described the ‘chaos’ at the junction on the corner of Horse Fair and Wood Street after the crash.
Mark Godstone, 47, told Metro: ‘It’s a horror junction that goes from three lanes to two and can be very confusing. There are lots of accidents here.
‘On the night this one happened, it was chaotic.
‘The police managed to block traffic from one side and there was a woman with a torch stopping cars on the other side so that no one else would crash.
‘The police accident investigators were down here and have been asking around about any dashcam footage locals may have.’
Amanda Cross, who lives just off Wood Street, said: ‘That junction is a deathtrap.
‘Especially with so many delivery riders, electric scooters and the like on the roads.
‘The one-way system around Kingston town centre needs rethinking.’
A Met police statement said: ‘The collision, between a car and a moped, happened on Saturday, 7 February at 11.30pm on Wood Street at the junction with Horse Fair in Kingston.
‘Sadly, the driver of the moped, a man aged 22, died at the scene. Specialist officers are supporting the victim’s family.

‘The driver of the other vehicle, described as dark-coloured, failed to stop at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to trace them.’
No arrests have been made and police are trawling through CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspect vehicle.
The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames have been approached for comment.
Detectives are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information, including dash cam footage, to call police on 101.
