Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed a message to Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, expressing support for efforts aimed at stabilizing the country and indicating Russia’s willingness to engage in “practical cooperation,” as reported by the Russian state news agency TASS on Thursday.
Putin reaffirmed “Russia’s ongoing commitment to fostering practical collaboration with the Syrian leadership across a wide range of bilateral issues to enhance the traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Syria,” according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Syria has been experiencing a surge in sectarian violence. Earlier this month, the Kremlin expressed its desire for a united and “friendly” Syria, noting that instability in the region could have repercussions for the entire Middle East.
Russia, which maintains two strategically significant military bases in Syria, was a key ally of former President Bashar al-Assad, who sought refuge in Russia following his ousting in December.
