NITDA Director General Advocates for Digital Skills to Boost Nigerian Economy

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has stated that providing Nigerian citizens with strong digital skills is essential to unlock the potential of technology for economic development.

Speaking at a virtual panel session on “Culture and Innovation: The Changing Landscape and Technoculture,” Inuwa emphasized that technology is a powerful tool that can accelerate Nigeria’s socio-economic progress if used effectively.

Represented by Barrister Emmanuel Edet, Acting Director, Regulation and Compliance, Inuwa stressed the importance of strategic policies and strong collaborations to ensure that technological innovations are integrated with Nigeria’s cultural values and developmental objectives.

He noted the increasing influence of digital innovation on global cultures and economies, highlighting user-friendly creative tools such as Figma, Canva, and CorelDRAW, which are now incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI). He emphasized that Nigerians must have the digital skills to use these tools effectively, opening up new opportunities for economic progress and participation in the digital economy.

Inuwa concluded by reiterating that “Technology is a tool—it all depends on how we use it,” and emphasized NITDA’s commitment to “create an environment that allows technology to contribute to Nigeria’s economic and creative development” while preserving the nation’s cultural identity in the digital age
